eebee

Meet eebee!

eebee is having adventures and your babies are invited to play along. Watch eebee learn shapes, colors, shadows, how to climb and how to play peek-a-boo.

eebee is not meant to be a babysitter for your children and that is my favorite part about eebee. eebee’s adventures are engaging for parents. If you are a first time parent and have no idea what to do with this new thing that is starting to crawl and need more than food and sleep. You are not alone. I was there. I had to take my daughter to Gymboree because I had no idea what to do with her. As our family grew though, Gymboree became too expensive. All I needed was something like eebee to show me what to do with my child.

eebee's adventures

So while your child is captivated by eebee, you can learn what to do with your own child. Another thing you can do is if you have pillows, blankets, flash lights, or whatever eebee is playing with and learning about, get your props out and get the hands on going. From the crawling stage/6 months babies are now known as “doers”. They need to stay busy. My son is a year old and he is still a dooer.

Babies will instinctively:

  • Take initiative and act on their natural curiosity
  • Make clear choices among different materials and experiences
  • Vary their strategies and try different approaches
  • Persist at a goal and stick to a task
  • Share their discoveries and seek social interaction

The three DVD’s are 17.95 each or you can do the eebee threebee for 48.45.

Each of the first three 30-minute DVDs, EXPLORING REAL STUFF, ALL IN A DAY’S PLAY,and FIGURING THINGS OUT includes three 10-minute adventures, original music and songs, and “play-by-play” commentary by and interviews with developmental experts.

EXPLORING REAL STUFF is for ages 6 months and up and kept Mile’s attention. My daughter whom is 12 watched FIGURING THINGS OUT twice and was ready to move on. She left Miles and I to Explore on our own or together I should say. So while exploring your children will learn about cause and effect. On Figuring Things Out your child can learn about climbing a wall of pillows and getting a ball and about turning lights on and off. ALL IN A DAY’S PLAY is about exploring textures and sounds.

eebee adventure play mat & activity play houseAt eebee’s shop you can find toys, books, and all the accessories you need to help you play with your child. Something like the eebee bowling on the left. Your child will have textures, and a ball. Your child will learn cause and effect, and have lots of chew toys for teething.

Because my children will not be watching these very often, I find it a waste for me to keep the review copies. I would like to give them away, so as long as you are ok with getting DVD’s that have only been viewed maybe three times then they are yours for the taking. This is part of the pay it forward movement. (give to others)

Eebee Baby DVD Review

eebeelogo1

eebee’s adventures,” created by every baby, inc. along with Sony Wonder, is a series of infant/toddler developmental DVDs designed to capture and build upon the wonder of seeing the world through a baby’s eyes. eebee, a cute baby-like puppet with colorfully funky hair, plays and interacts with mommy figure, Kristy, in play situations using every day objects. The video also portrays real babies playing with their parents.

I received a set of eebee Adventure DVD’s to review and was very impressed. Nothing can keep the attention of my 12 month old. Well, nothing until now. My little guy actually watches eebee. He laughs, claps, and smiles. It is so cute to watch. Now one thing to remember if you should watch these DVD’s yourself – they are primitive but they are geared towards infants/toddlers. Little ones are not interested in massive graphics in order to catch their attention. With 5 kids, I have purchased many movies for my kids to watch (from Baby Einstein, Disney, Dora, etc) and none have been able to capture the attention as well as eebee baby does.

eebee1

There are 3 DVD’s available

  • Exploring Real Stuff – eebee and playmates explore a range of materials and everyday objects with the simple and enticing goal of finding out what these things are like.
  • All in a Day’s Play – The many teachable, unplanned and unscripted learning moments that fill a baby’s day are the inspiration for All in a Day’s Play.
  • Figuring Things Out – showcases what can happen when a child’s newfound motor skills support her natural curiosity and interest in making things work and achieving goals.

Each sells for $17.95 on their website and is available at Barnes and Noble. Each DVD has 3 - 10 minute segments which focuses on a learning concept that eebee models, along with other babies.

eebee’s adventures Review and Giveaway (Closed)

eebee1I was so excited to be given the opportunity to introduce my children to eebee’s adventures.  We were sent 3 DVD’s to watch and when we received them the kids couldn’t wait to watch them.  They each picked their favorite, well, Rylan and Taylor picked their favorite and Peyton was left with which one was left over.  He was fine with that because he just enjoyed all the bright colors on the DVD cover.  Each DVD is bright and cheerful with vibrant and exciting colors.  If you are not familiar with eebee’s adventures, check out my introduction to eebee.

The first DVD we watched was Figuring Things Out!  This particular DVD is recommended for ages 12 months and up, but all three of my children stared at the screen watching eebee. I should point out that once you insert the DVD into your player it starts to play almost instantly.  There is no stumbling around with the remote trying to find play on the menu.  I also love that the DVD engages the attention of all my children.

eebee’s adventures are designed to engage you and your baby with rich play experiences that provide powerful lessons that memorizing letters, numbers, colors and shapes simply can and do not.

Babes and Kids: eebee baby dvds – Review & Giveaway

eebee baby dvds – Review & Giveaway

My boys love to watch dvd’s, that no secret in our house.  So when I was introduced to eebee, I was automatically excited because eebee encourages babies to do and discover.  Yes, I said babies.  Chandler is 3 1/2 and is definitely not a baby anymore, but he is constantly asking to watch Eebee.  At 15 months, Rowan is intruiged with Eebee, but that is to be expected, right?

Pros:  I think a company’s goal and philosophy is incredibly important, especially to parents.  As taken from eebee’s adventures website, here is an exerpt of their philosophy:

“eebee’s adventures are designed to engage you and your baby with rich play experiences that provide powerful lessons that memorizing letters, numbers, colors and shapes simply can and do not.”

I think it’s great when babies and toddlers learn ther numbers, colors, and so on, but it doesn’t teach important things like cause and effect and problem solving.  I am so happy to see a product that is based around this very thing.

We were able to review a 3 dvd set featuring Eebee, which included:
Exploring Real Stuff
Figuring Things Out
All in a Day’s Play

Each dvd includes adventures with eebee, play by play guides (expert commentary on every adventure), a developmental perspective (a video Q&A with academic leaders), eebee’s beat (a mini music & movement adventure), and song selections.  They are each 75 minutes which makes them a great value.I love that all three of these dvds explore cause and effect.  Rowan is really into this stage as he often drops his sippy cup from his high chair simply to see what it will do when it falls.  There are numerous ideas for parents to help their children explore different properties in the eebee dvds.

In the dvd,  All in a Day’s Play, they show a baby banging on pots and pans.  This may not seem like much, but it allows babies to explore sound, music, soft and loud, and rhythms.  I decided to put this to the test, and it was amazing how I could see the wheels turning as Rowan banged on his pots and pans, and discovered all of these sounds, etc.

The possibilities are endless, and I love how it encourages developmental skills with your baby. In the dvd Figuring Things Out, a baby is allowed to experiment with a flashlight.  This was also a big hit with both of my boys and really allowed them to explore light and dark, and on and off.

I think eebee is a perfect fit for babies and even toddlers.  A cute, brightly colored puppet is just the key to engage attention.  The eebee theme song it catchy and I find Chandler getting up to dance every time it comes on.

As Eebee’s tagline states:  Every Baby Learns By Doing.  I couldn’t agree more.

Cons:  Honestly, I tried to find a con with eebee and I couldn’t.  Ultimately, I am writing the reviews, but feedback from my two munchkins is the most important to me.  When I see them learning and exploring, and developing their senses, and staying interested in something for more than a few minutes, it’s amazing.  That’s a great product.

The Bottom Line:  Hands on dvd series that teaches essental developmental skills, while still being entertaining and engaging.

Price:  $17.95 per dvd, or $48.45 for a 3 pack

Contest Corner: Interview With Stephen Gass of eebee

Interview With Stephen Gass of eebee

eebee is a series of DVDs for babies, aiming to “transform everyday play into learning that lasts”. Starring the adorable puppet “eebee”, shows eebee in playing and learning in everyday situations – because, as their motto goes, every baby learns by doing.

Stephen Gass, the creator of eebee, recently took a moment to chat with Contest Corner about eebee’s adventures.

Contest Corner: What inspired you to create eebee?

Stephen Gass: With my background as a developmental psychologist and educator, and having spent much of my career with organizations including Sesame Street, Scholastic and Nickelodeon creating educational media, toys, books and games, I was fascinated by the emergence of “baby media” that exploded onto the market a few years back. I was also intrigued to find that little of what I saw reflected the way real babies learn… through active, hands-on exploration and social play.

Informed by the latest research on memory, attention, imitation, language, social and motor skill development, we set out to create a new approach to the genre, an approach that would go beyond showing decontextualized objects on a screen or attempting to “teach” academic letter and number skills. We wanted to not only engage babies, but inspire parents as well. Our goal was to be a catalyst for real-world play, to focus on the foundational skills babies can only build through experience, and to celebrate the natural everyday interactions with parents that are essential for learning.

The exciting and satisfying result of this baby- and play-centered approach has been the countless reports from families who describe how they are not only playing and interacting with their babies during an “adventure,” but before and after as well. Hearing those stories, folks sharing baby pictures with us, and knowing that we are a playful addition to a parent’s arsenal of learning tools is what truly inspires me.

Contest Corner: There seems to be quite a debate these days as to whether or not
babies should be exposed to TV. What’s your take on this?

Stephen Gass: Back in 1999, the American Academy of Pediatricians issued a statement recommending no TV for children under the age of 2. Their concern was based on the lack of research about babies and TV and a fear that TV viewing would take away from critical real-world social and physical interactions. This was followed by some studies that attempted to draw connections between early TV viewing and later learning problems. These studies have been refuted. The most recent research indicates what parents already know: CONTENT MATTERS. The real issues are ones of moderation–making sure that you limit the amount of screen time; content–looking for programming that a baby is capable of not only attending to but understanding; and context–using TV like any other developmental experience for your child…talk about it, describe it, play along and use it as a scaffold for interaction. Damning the medium itself does not help us to understand how, when and why it might be an effective tool. We live in a highly media and screen-centric world. Our goal is to better understand the effective and responsible role of media in all of our lives…and we know now that what’s on the screen and how it’s presented can and does make a difference. That’s what we need to focus on.

Contest Corner: You designed Eebee to fit with your philosophy that “Every baby learns by doing”. Can you tell me a little more about this concept and how this is expressed in the DVDs?

Stephen Gass: Unlike so many baby DVDs that simply display collections of images or are akin to video flash cards, our “adventures” feature eebee, the baby’s baby, along with real babies and real grown-ups engaged in real-world, hands-on play. Rather than an “adventure” being about the “seasons,” or “animals,” each adventure is based on a play curriculum and centers around a particular play pattern or material. They are social. And babies are social learners. For example, eebee and friends play with water, paper and boxes, light and shadow, rolling and sliding, making music, building and un-building, or filling and dumping. Rather than showing a picture of a ball to introduce either the word “ball” or the concept of “rolling,” an adventure will show ball play and exploration in a real-world context with eebee and babies playing and exploring with balls and grown-ups scaffolding, assisting, and describing…just like in the real-world and just like the developmental research and experts suggest. We know that watching is no substitute for actual experience, but observing and modeling are often the first step to doing.

Contest Corner: What do you hope to achieve with Eebee?

Stephen Gass: Big picture: I’d like to change the world one baby at a time. Maybe the “adventures” will help to achieve this goal. On a more modest level, our goal is to engage babies with new ideas through play and grown-ups with new ideas about play and development and, simply stated, to put a smile back into developmental play.

Contest Corner: Do you have any upcoming Eebee projects you’d like to share with us?

Stephen Gass: Like every baby, it seems like every day there’s something new to be excited about with eebee:

-eebee will soon be available in Spanish on DVD and TV;

- In addition to Comcast, Cox and Bresnan, eebee will also soon be available via MagRack, a VIDEO ON DEMAND service, on AT&T,

Advanced Cable,Bend Broadband, Braintree BELD, Cincinnati Bell, Guadalupe Valley, INS Des Moines, IA, Insight, Knology, Mediacom, Suddenlink, Verizon and Cablevision;

-We will be introducing 2 new board books this summer at Barnes & Noble: eebee’s MAKE IT HAPPEN adventures (the eebee twist on a baby book of opposites) and eebee’s HERE TO THERE adventure (the “action” adventure for every toddler on the move);

- eebee’s MIX & MASH adventures in the kitchen for babies and grown-ups, a book and DVD combination is slated for release later this year!

Contest Corner: Thanks for chatting with us today, Stephen!

If you’d like to learn more about eebee’s adventures, you can find out more on their official webite, eebee.com. Readers can recive a 10% discount at the store by simply typing the word: eebee
I will be reviewing the eebee series once I return from England, so check back to see my thoughts on the DVD collection!

A Giveaway Addicted Mommy: Eebee Adventures Review

Eebee Adventures Review

The idea behind Eebee’s adventures is that babies learn by doing – that play allows babies to strengthen the skills needed to become thinkers and achievers. “Inspired by every baby and informed by the latest research on how babies learn and grow, eebee’s adventures products are designed to help you and your baby transform everyday play into learning that lasts.

Eebee is the sweetest little “baby” and Jake loves to watch Eebee and the other children experience different things. Like what happens when you scoop up some rice and then tip the cup over and pour it out. Simple right? To you and I it is simple. To a baby it is simply amazing!

There are so many children’s DVD’s to choose from and I have had a hard time finding the right blend of entertainment and education. I love the ideas that Eebee Adventures gives me. It encourages you to start to look at things through your child’s eye – seeing, touching, and hearing things for the very first time. I have also gotten some great ideas like giving him a bunch of paper to play with and experience what each of them feels and sounds like.

Here is a video of Jake watching one Doing the Stop (click on the link to watch the YouTube video). Please excuse the torn up paper, from the aforementioned paper play, on the ground & the blue tape (hiding buttons and doors) on the TV. The segment encourages your child to dance when the music is playing and stop when it stops. You’ll also see just how much my son loves Eebee when he literally kisses the TV.
video
We were able to review the DVD’s: All In A Day’s Play!, Exploring Real Stuff and Figuring Things Out. The first two are for ages 6 months and up and the last is for 12 months and up. While Jake is 21 months old, he really liked the 6 month and up DVD’s the best. He originally got a little bored with the Figuring Things Out video but I have been using some of the adventures in that DVD around the house and he is starting to make the connection. The DVD’s also have bonus features such as Q & A with academic leaders in the fields of infant learning, play and children’s media and expert commentary on every adventure.

You can purchase Eebee books, toys, DVD’s, gifts and clothing on Eebee’s Adventures site. I encourage you to watch the videos on YouTube like Mama’s Beat and Move to the Groove. I know as soon as we did, Jake was hooked. We all love Eebee!

Miracles on Mama Street: Eebee’s Adventures & 2 Eebee Video Giveaways!

Eebee’s Adventures & 2 Eebee Video Giveaways!

Meet Eebee! Eebee is a toddler that is learning new things during each waking moment of life, just like our own babies and toddlers that are growing up before our eyes! The creators at Eebee’s Adventure’s have developed videos, toys, and books to engage young children and their parents and grandparents in developmental play that will further the child’s learning. Children play by instinct-
“Babies will instinctively:
Take initiative and act on their natural curiosity
Make clear choices among different materials and experiences
Vary their strategies and try different approaches
Persist at a goal and stick to a task
Share their discoveries and seek social interaction
These are the real basic skills of your baby’s first years and these are the hallmarks of great thinkers and achievers. The research is clear that the best way for babies to grow and strengthen these skills—the skills they need to succeed in life—is to play (eebee)”.

Upon viewing the videos, parents will find them rich in language development, filled with active, gentle play opportunities that REAL parents and children can do on their own, and music suited to the adventure taking place.

My children and visiting children stood in awe while watching the videos. They were so captivated by the explorative play that Eebee was engaged in with his parent. I, as the parent, was thrilled to learn of new activities to try with my baby/toddler. We reviewed the Eebee adventure called Figuring Things Out. Skills that were addressed in this video were cause and effect, light and dark, building, and many other skills that your child is learning. As an educator, I saw the value in learning new explorative ways to participate in play with my toddler.

Seeryus Mama: Eebee’s Adventures

Eebee’s Adventures

I’d like to introduce you to eebee’s adventures. There is an important philosophy behind eebee’s adventures and that is hands on learning! Whether you have a baby or a toddler, even as they get older, our children learn by “doing“. Why not encourage them even more with eebee’s adventures?
Creators Stephen Gass and Don Burton both have a whole list of accomplishments…it’s truely amazing! It’s obvious that they have poured their hearts into eebee’s adventures!
I was lucky enough to ask the creator of eebee’s adventures a couple of questions…
How was Eebees created? Were you inspired by anyone?

A few years back, I decided to take a closer look at all of the “brainy” videos for babies that were flooding the market. I was amazed at how they didn’t reflect the way babies learn…through experience and play, the essential social nature of learning (babies need grown ups to help to scaffold play and learning and to add the language that describes what’s going on), or that screen-based media, when informed by the research on imitation, memory, and attention and general developmental milestones, can inspire active engagement and play-along, play-before and play after behaviors.
My business partner, Don Burton, a dad of three ranging in age from 1 to 7, set out to create what the press now refers to as “the un-Baby Einstein” option for parents which is all about play, exploring new behaviors, and discovery…in a real world, with real objects, and real people who make things happen. Our goal was not to be “brainy,” but rather to engage babies with new ideas through play and parents with new ideas about play and development…in a playful and practical way.

Do you have children, and if so, did they watch TV?
I do not have kids…eebee’s my baby…. I’m trained as a developmental psychologist and spent the early part of my career as an elementary school teacher. My first job out of graduate school was as a researcher at Sesame Street. I learned early on that the issues surrounding kids and TV are all about content, moderation, and parental involvement. Don and Tish (Don’s wife) allow their kids to watch TV, but with limits on which shows, when and how often.
We live in a media-centric world….one in which screens are becoming more and more central to everything we do. We believe that today’s parents understand that it’s about balance, moderation, and the quality of content that kids are exposed to on TV.

Why do you think there is the controversy of young children watching television?

The controversy about young kids and TV surfaced back in 1999 when the American Academy of Pediatricians made a recommendation for no TV under the age of 2. Their concern was that TV time would take away from the critical time a baby needs to interact with real people and real objects in the real world. The AAP was also concerned that there was not very much research about the impact of TV on early development. Since that caution was released, the good news is that there’s a growing body of research that, essentially, ranges from “no negative effects” to positive learning when the CONTENT of the shows is part of the research question. Perhaps that’s the most important piece of news we have about this question…the fact of the matter, and to parents this won’t be a surprise, is that CONTENT MATTERS. What your child watches can make a difference.

And finally, I understand you worked closely with several aspects of Sesame Street, do you have a favorite character?

As tough as this is to answer, as each character strikes a different chord, I’m a real Grover fan… true blue (actually very blue), imaginative, curious, innocent, up for a challenge, good friend, funny…and pretty cute, too.

We were able to try out 3 DVD’s.
Figuring Things Out – This was Pea’s favorite DVD! Pea is at that stage where she’s trying to “figure things out”! Knocking over towers that Johnny builds to jumping on pillows on the floor…she’s always doing this! There was a section called “The Lightbulb Goes On”, and right away she picked recognized the flashlight. She was on a mission to find Johnny’s flashlight and she did! It’s fun to see her connect with what is happening on the DVD.
Exploring Real Stuff – eebee and his friends play with everyday things to find out what they are like. Balls, paper, rice and cereal. Sure, it’s the same old thing for us, but for little ones, it’s something new. A new texture, the weight of a object, pouring in and out, the sound it makes. It’s easy to interact with your child while watching. Divided into three subjects, Brimming with Ideas, Out of the Box and On a Roll, your child will love to laugh and play with eebee!
All In A Day’s Play – This DVD just reiterates that there is so much to learn! It’s the simple things, every day things that your child can play with and have fun! From banging on a pot to shaking a rattle. It’s fun to make noise! Again, the opportunity to play with Pea during the DVD made watching it even more special. I came away with great ideas to incorporate in our daily playtimes.
Recently, there have been articles published about the effects of babies and toddlers and TV watching. It seems that the verdict changes all the time. With eebee’s adventures it’s so much more than just watching the television.
I’m so impressed with eebee’s adventures and I know you will be too. Their philosophy that “Every baby learns by doing” is absolutely spot on. Be looking for more for more to come your way from eebee’s adventures!
